At the mere age of 21, I've only been to Indian weddings. In fact, my brother and my cousin both got married back to back weekends just earlier this year! I can definitely say that I become an expert at partying, sitting through ceremonies, drinking, and eating more food than necessary for 4 days straight... even if I had no voice at the end of it all.
I thought that I was going to have a void in my life after a year of wedding planning and festivities. Boy was a I wrong! Less than 2 months later one of my best friends from high school got engaged! Her now fiance popped the question at a quaint bed and breakfast at the end of July and of course I was the first person she called after her parents! I was about to take on New York City that weekend with some friends, and got the call just as we were arriving. I think everyone thought they went deaf for a few moments as I was talking to her in the loudest voice possible thanks to my excitement!! Loryn and I have known each other since 6th grade, that's nine years and counting now. We've been through so many stages of life together -- from middle school and through college -- being crazy, partying, just hanging out, and even great talks for hourssss. Getting separated when we went to college didn't even have an effect on us...that's how strong our friendship was, is, and will continue to be. Her mom even had to get her unlimited texting thanks to me haha. I just couldn't believe she was getting married!
After I told my friends what had happened, that is when it really hit me...Loryn is ENGAGED. She's getting MARRIED...oh my god! It was crazy and exciting all at the same time. I didn't even know what I was doing next week, let alone next year and this girl was getting married! But this was perfect for her. I knew that this is what she wanted, and that she was going to be SO happy...and that's all that mattered! This also meant that I would be attending my first American wedding...ever.
(a little more of the prelude coming soon...then we'll get into present day!)
